Metadata

Why is metadata important?

Metadata refers to the information that describes your music.  Metadata is what tells you everything about the song you are listening to.  It will tell you what the artist, album, track name and track number is.  It will also show you a picture of the album cover on MP3 devices that have screens.

Metadata is critical to any conversion effort as it not only aids in knowing what you are listening to, but also is used by your MP3 device, computer or media server to organize your music for you.  It allows you to search for artists or albums, it is what brings organization to what would otherwise be a pile of meaningless files.

Metadata accuracy is key to ultimate enjoyment and is what we strive for.  We do not subscribe to any online metadata databases such as Gracenote or AMG as we have found them to be too inconsistent and narrowly populated.  Some ripping companies have tried to work around this by using multiple services in order to find some common information between them to call accurate.

We at Pickled Productions own our metadata and use it exclusively.  This provides us a way to directly control the accuracy and tagging consistency that we strive for.  Our metadata is processed through our own data grooming process that ensures that your music is tagged accurately and consistently.  We provide the most accurate and consistent metadata in the industry.  Because we own our data, we can also customize the metadata tags to accommodate a variety of tagging preferences.  This is something that is just not possible using a metadata service.

How extensive is our metadata?  We currently have over 2.6 million entries in our database.  If your CD is unlucky enough to not be in our database, we will add it.  We stand by our data and never will disclaim it.  Other services disclaim their data by telling you that they use a service, so if the data is wrong it is not their fault.  We don't agree.  Metadata is far too important.
